VAIKOM MUHAMMAD  BASHEER (1908-1994)  Vaikom muhammad basheer(21 January 1908-5 July 1994), popularly referred to as beypore Sultan,was an Indian writer of Malayalam literature,a humanist and an Indian independence activity.He was a novelist and short story writer noted for his path breaking, down-to-earth style of writing that made him equally popular among literacy critics as well as the common man.His notable works include Balyakalasakhi,Shabdangal,Pathummayude Aadu,Ntuppuppakoranendarnu,Mathilukal,Janmadinam and Anargha Nimisham and the translations of his works into other languages have earned him world wide acclaim.The government of india awarded him the fourth highest civilian honour of the Padma Shri in 1982.He was also a recipient of the sahithya academy fellowship and the Kerala state film award for best story.He was a recipient of the vallathol award in 1993.

International day against Drug abuse

As a global problem, drugs trade has always been a debatable scenario. The first international conference on narcotic drugs was helped in  Shanghai in 1909. Gradually, a multilateral system to control production, trafficking, and abuse of drugs was developed. Three drugs control conventions were adopted under the auspices of the United nation (in 1961, 1971 and 1988).   Single convention on narcotic drugs, 1961-the aim of the convention was to combat drug abuse by international action that was well co-ordinate. Intervention and control that work together and have two forms. First, it seeks limit the  procession,use, distribution, import, export, manufacture and production of drugs exclusively to medical and scientific purposes. Second, it is combats drug trafficking through international cooperation to deter and discourage drug traffickers.
